Aboard the 48-foot sailing vessel, One Ocean, the Around the Americas (ATA) team will depart in May 2025 from Anacortes, WA, bound for Victoria, B.C., to participate in the International Seaweed Symposium. The voyage will include traversing the Northwest Passage en route to the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP30) in Brazil by November 2025. Following this, Team ATA will navigate around Cape Horn, sailing along the west coast of South America before returning to Anacortes. The expedition’s primary objectives are to raise awareness regarding the critical condition of our oceans, the protection and restoration of biodiversity, the collection of scientific data, educational outreach initiatives, and the distribution of important narratives concerning oceanic issues and solutions. They will continually broadcast their project and the collected data and conduct community outreach across more than 53 coastal cities and communities.
